Just a short update on what’s going on with tuition and (personal) life and what I’m thinking of for next year!

I’ve filled up my last tuition slot since May and am not taking in any more students until the A Level H2 Math papers are done. Decided to go with 9 tuition slots this year; it seems like the right balance of work, money and life for me. With all the Heightened Alerts and all that, private tuition is still allowed to continue but I can only have a maximum of two distinct visitors to my household everyday. Particularly, this means on Saturdays and Sundays I have to get some students to do online tuition (voluntary basis first, then rotational basis otherwise), and on some weekdays where I have brother’s side coming over, I won’t arrange any in-person lessons on those days either. I’m hoping that after August 18th, we can resume 5 person per household limits, if everyone is fully vaccinated, so that offline lessons can go on as per usual.

Recently on 1st August 2021, I reached one of my personal financial Milestones, which I’m pretty happy about. I earn a sufficient amount through full time tuition, don’t spend too much, especially on big ticket items, and have stable dividend returning and capital gaining investments for the past 15 years, and all that helps me get to where I am currently. I’m not at the end game yet though, so I’ll still be doing full time tuition for at least some time. I’m considering the idea of reducing my number of tuition lesson slots to 8 for 2022 (3 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday, 1 on Tuesday, 1 on Thursday) so that I have a 4 day work week. Come to think about it, actually I work more or less everyday; even on my off days I’m either marking or going through my student’s papers and giving comments, or working on my resources for at least a few hours in the afternoon. I might want to cut down on that as well. Reducing my workload slightly should help improve the quality of my life.

This is my first year where all my JC students actually pass their mid year exams! Most of them have been with me since early this year (and a few from last year), so I think I’m probably doing something right. Will continue to work hard and get them to work hard. We need more than a pass!

I’ll be uploading my solution for the 2020 A Level H2 Math papers soon, once I finish typing them! I have already done the papers long ago by handwriting but I’ll need to type them out and give my personal comments on each problem as well.

MOCK PAPER 2021 is also underway! I have 4 sets of MOCK PAPERs done up already, one set in each year from 2017 to 2020. This might be the last one I set so that I have a complete set of 5 papers to give students for practice before the A Levels.

That’s all for now!
