Here’s the short update with regards to the new announced measures to stem the spread of COVID-19 in Singapore. In particular, people will only be allowed outside in groups of no more than two from 16 May 2021 to 13 June 2021. Households will also not be allowed to receive more than two distinct visitors per day, and individuals are to cap their gatherings at two a day as well.

For tuition, I’m giving parents and students a choice of having online lessons or continuing with face-to-face lessons. I have encountered parents on either side of the decision spectrum before: those who contact me immediately for the possibility of online lessons, and those who are adamant on having face-to-face lessons as long as it is legally possible. I may need to shift a few students on the weekend to a weekday so that I can be in line with the “two a day” rule.

My parents are fully vaccinated and they are ok with my decision to continue with some face-to-face lessons, and they will not be coming into close contact with my students anyway. I’m be taking all necessary precautions as always (masks on during lessons, use of hand sanitizers etc.), and also will be looking forward to getting my own vaccination shot as early as possible.

Of course, if the government announced a full lockdown again, or otherwise bans the conduct of face-to-face tuition, then I would go back to full online tuition once again. This might cost me a bit, but I’m thankful that I have a job I still can perform even during a lockdown period.
